Outdoor Science School at Carolina Creek

Carolina Creek added Outdoor Science School to its program camps in 2023. It was a unique program that sought to increase awareness and scientific understanding of the natural world through hands-on participatory science lessons and experiences integrated with team building, character development opportunities, adventure activities, stewardship and conservation practices.
This project started off with collaboration with the Superintendent to develop a logo and brand for the program. The goal was to reflect the program’s outdoor learning focus while staying approachable for kids and versatile for both print and digital use.

Design Highlights:

Nature Icons: Trees, water, birds, and a rising sun represent the program’s focus on environmental education and growth.

Circular Layout: Inspired by a traditional camp patch, the shape gives a sense of unity and works well on signage, apparel, and materials.

Color Palette: Earthy greens and blues paired with warm yellow evoke the natural world and a sense of energy and optimism.

Typography: A bold, sans-serif font keeps the look friendly and easy to read, with the camp name grounding the design.

The final mark is clean, flexible, and visually engaging—perfect for representing an enriching outdoor experience.

After the logo, the Nature Journal is the most important deliverable for this project. It is a highly engaging, educational tool used by our Naturalists to teach the students. It is one of my favorite works because it incorporates a plethora of illustrations done by the Superintendent and her daughter.

Other deliverables include a welcome banner, trail group sandwich board signs, and staff shirts.
